Autumn is coming

I love colour.

I know, I know, I’m supposed to dress in all black, and shoot dark and moody and go around muttering “I’m Batman” everywhere I go, but I’m sorry, that’s not just who I am. My closet where I hang my tee-shirts looks like a pride parade with all the various shades of orange and yellow and pink and blue and green. Yes, there’s a few darker shades (including my well-worn and near-worn out Batman tee-shirt; I am, after all, a huge geek), but I love colour.

I have a friend who only shoots black and white, who keeps telling me that I need to dial it down, but I can’t help it. Colour makes a photo sing.

That’s why I love the next few months so much. The colours of autumn are so majestic. While I’d love to be out east for autumn someday, with their brilliant reds, I have a soft spot for the colours of the Peace Country (Grande Prairie, Dawson, Fort. St John and beyond), when the mountains turn yellow and orange.

The light in autumn seems to take on a fresh new quality, too, the late afternoon sun creating drama and beauty before softening into that early evening light, where everything seems to glow.

Autumn marks the return of pumpkin spice Blizzards (I don’t do coffee, sorry) and sexy, comfy sweaters and all that is good and right in the world.

What I love more than autumn, though, is photographing people enjoying autumn. Maybe that’s walking through a golden forest in flowing lingerie. Maybe that’s getting a little cheeky wearing an off-the-shoulder sweater and nothing else. Maybe that’s rolling about in the leaves in our Trademark Debrisdoir sessions. Or maybe that’s (as happened last year) going down to the river to photograph you playing in the water with the leaves behind the day before the first snow.

If you want to get out and enjoy autumn and be photographed doing it, Book a free, no commitment/no pressure consultation today, because you never know what tomorrow will bring, though it might bring snow.
