Do it all for you

Back in the 1970s, McDonald’s tag line was “we do it all for you.”

While the theme song for the campaign was catchy, it was also, well, misleading. Here’s a place where you have to walk up to the counter, order your own food standing there, then carry the food back to your table. Once you’re done eating, you are expected to take your trash and your tray to the proper place. Indeed, outside of cooking for you and taking your cash, McDonalds didn’t do much for you at all. Wanted a special order? At the time, that was nearly impossible.

Of course, if you actually watch the video above and more importantly, listen to the words, the “all” that they mean are “the things we do, like ‘keep it clean’ ” And not, you know, all those other alls that all could refer to.

And maybe things were different back then, but things like cleanliness seem to be fairly baseline when it comes to being in the restaurant industry.

This is something that is always on my mind as someone whose job it is to serve people. How do I make the experience wonderful, besides keeping things clean and, you know, taking some bomb-ass images?

I have some things implemented, and some other things I’ve done, but I’d like to take it to the people. What have businesses done that have gone above and beyond? What sort of service have you gotten that have made you say “I’m definitely going back.”?

What is an example of a business doing it “all” for you? You can send me an email, or comment below on your favourite examples of customer service.
